“A visit from the remarkable author of “The Little Optimist”! – Hout Bay International School

11th September 2017 – Hout Bay International School

Greg Bertish was the Primary School’s special guest at Monday’s Assembly. His messages to our children were “never, ever give up” and “stay positive”!  Listening to the extremely trying times he had with his heart operations and how he used that to motivate him to “Do good for the underprivileged and needy children” is truly an amazing and uplifting story.

He shared his life story with our students; from struggling at school and being bullied to being a South African champion lifesaver and Stand Up Paddle Boarder as well as a successful businessman, and one can only say WOW, what a story! One wants to agree with one of our students who, during question time, asked “how come you are still alive?” He is also the founder of the Shark Spotter Programme and he is an ambassador for The Children’s Hospital as well as the National Sea Rescue Institute.

His mission statement, taken from his website www.thelittleoptimist.org reads as follows:

To inspire many, raise funds for those in need, and to just do good!

And that he did, we were truly inspired!

Thank you, Greg, for making the start to our week so very special!
